• Alzheimer’s Diagnoses…Now What?

Researchers are working around the clock to learn all the aspects of Alzheimer’s disease and they believe a cure could be on the horizon.  Discoveries about the functions of the brain that relate to dementia and Alzheimer’s are being made and now it’s a matter of time.

In the last 30 years alone, broad strides have been made increasing the level of knowledge we have about this disease.  It is amazing how  researchers are predicting Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias could be prevented or the progress slowed in those already with the disease.

Here are a few things you can do NOW to prevent Alzheimer’s:

    1. Get regular exercise.   It increases the flow of blood and oxygen to the brain and can protect heart health, which can be an indicator for those at risk.
    2. Have a healthy diet.   A diet low in red meats and high in whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and good oils is very important.
    3. Prevent head injuries.  Protecting yourself from a head injury is very important.
    4. Stay social.  Creating and having strong social connections helps brain function.
    5. “Use it or lose it.” This old saying applies to the brain, too.   Keeping your brain active lowers the risk of decline, which is a contributing factor to Alzheimer’s. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or dementia, learn more about possible home care options.
